Spring Adult Ed Series: Role of Mt. Lebanon in WWII

May 19, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

“Mt. Lebanon Goes to War”: In recognition of the Historical Society of Mt. Lebanon’s new History Center hosting the traveling “We Can Do It! WWII” exhibit, Todd presents a program on the role of Mt. Lebanon in WWII. It’s a surprising history of the transformation of an “Isolationist” community into one that embraced the war effort in major ways. Rationing, shortages, and scrap collections involved everyone, and over 2,600 residents joined the armed forces and shipped off to every corner of the world.  Come hear the remarkable and harrowing stories of a few, such as the young airman Ed Ryan, who barely escaped the war with his life only to return home and build houses for the postwar boom.

Todd DePastino is founder and executive director of the Veterans Breakfast Club, which holds veterans’ storytelling programs open to the public. He has a Ph.D. in American History from Yale University is author of the award winning BILL MAULDIN: A LIFE UP FRONT (W.W. Norton) and several other books.
