Gardens of Pennsylvania (8/08)

Temple’s colorful and meaningful Holocaust Memorial Garden will be featured in a TV show that will be aired on PBS stations across the state.  Locally, the hour-long “Gardens of Pennsylvania” program, hosted by Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writer Doug Oster, will air on WQED-TV, Channel 13, on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 8 p.m.  The show will be rebroadcast on WQED Nov. 4 at 3 p.m.

As part of the program, Oster will show viewers the 32-by-16-foot garden in the Temple courtyard near the library, explain the powerful symbols of the Holocaust, and tell the story of the late Marga Randall, a congregant who escaped from Nazi Germany when she was a young girl and who was instrumental in creating the garden.  For the segment on the Temple garden, which was filmed here in August, Oster interviewed Temple board member Lynn Rubin, who designed the garden, Rabbi Mark Mahler and Temple Executive Director Saralouise Reis.
