Giving Thanks
Oct. 22, 2009
From Diana Stern, Worship Team
As I sit here thinking about Thanksgiving and my Jewish heritage, personal memories flood my mind. Years of my grandparents’ rituals and customs handed down to my parents and then to me. It is all so personal.

My mind travels to other countries and the citizens of these countries who have no knowledge of what Thanksgiving is or what they have to be thankful for. We Jews in America are lucky. We have freedoms and choices that our ancestors never had and even today in certain countries freedom and choices are forbidden.

I like to get in bed at night and feel like I’m in a cocoon, all snug and protected. I like to go marketing and decide what meals to make for the week. Toward the end of the week, I love to go to Temple and celebrate Shabbat with all the congregants. It is a warm and welcoming experience. We should be proud and thankful to have a Temple Emanuel that reaches out to not only Jews but to other people of all religions.

May we all feel gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy.
